How far are you from Melbourne Airport?
We're on the airport side of the city so you can save transport time and money. We're about 20km or 25 minutes drive from the airport. Taxi costs $35-$40. Skybus costs $13 one-way and $24 return.
How far are you from the city?
The city is at the end of our tree-lined, heritage street about 800m or 8 mins walk away.
And public transport?
Buses and trams are 200m-400m away.
Do you supply maps?
Check out the map on this website. We can supply you with maps prepared and distributed by Melbourne Visitors Centre.
I understand Melbourne is Australia's culinary capital and I plan to enjoy some of the 95 restaurants in Lygon Street. How far would I have to walk?
About 250m.
But what about Chinatown and the Vietnamese and Greek restaurant precincts?
All within 2km. Plus we can supply you with inside info on the cheapest and best places to eat in town.
I plan to prepare some meals in my suite. Are you near a supermarket?
Supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies and liquor stores are all within 400m.
I enjoy the occasional film. How far to the nearest cinema?
Imax, with the world's biggest screen, is 250m away. The seven-cinema Nova complex is 400m.
I've heard about the Melbourne Exhibition Building joining the Pyramids and the Taj Mahal on the World Heritage Register and would love to take some photos. How far?
About 300m.
And what about the Melbourne Museum, State Library, Federation Square, National Gallery of Victoria, Crown Casino, Melbourne Exhibition Centre and the Zoo?
The museum is 250m away. Crown Entertainment Centre and MEC about 2km. Zoo about 3km. The others are walkable within 20 mins.
Shopping. I gather Melbourne is Australia's fashion capital. Where can I go?
QV complex, Melbourne Central and the exquisite new GPO shopping facility are all within 10mins walk. Lygon clothes shops are just around the corner.
What about the cheap end of the market?
The food and clothing bargains at Victoria Market are within 15 mins walk.
The great samples and seconds precincts in Richmond and Collingwood are about 3km away. Plus we can provide you with so much inside info on places to shop that your savings could cover most of your accommodation costs!
I'm told Melbourne is the sporting capital of the world. Where are the main facilities?
Melbourne Park (Grand Slam Tennis) is 2.5km. Melbourne Cricket Ground
Cricket, Australian Football and Commonwealth Games headquarters), 2km, Telstra Dome (Australian Football) 2km, Albert Park (F1 Grand Prix Racing), 4km.
And nightclubs?
Melbourne has more than 100 nightclubs. We're close to most. Check the Melbourne Gigs link for details of what's on where.
What about universities and hospitals?
Melbourne is a renowned centre of learning and medical care. It has more foreign students per capita than any city in the world. We are less than 1km from the University of Melbourne and RMIT University. We are less than 2km from six major hospitals.
And the beach?
St Kilda is 15 mins drive and Port Melbourne about 20 mins.
ACCOMMODATION
How many suites do you have and how many do they accommodate?
We have five studio suites:
Studio Drummond has a split King bed and one double sofa bed.. Accommodates 1 to 4 guests.
Studio Lygon has a Queen bed and a double sofa bed. Accommodates 1 to 4 guests.
Studio Rathdowne has a Queen bed and a double sofa bed. Accommodates 1 to 4 guests.
Studio Bouverie has a King bed. A single fold up bed is also available. Accommodates 1 to 3 guests.
Studio Grattan has a Queen bed and a double sofa bed. Accommodate 1 to 4 guests.
Do you take kids?
We accommodate kids on the strict understanding that they at all times respect the comfort and privacy of other guests.
What if I have a friend stay over?
Additional guests are welcome. The rate for additional guests is $25 a night.
How quiet is your accommodation?
Carlton Terrace is a 111 year old two storey, solid brick terrace, superbly located on a quiet avenue, far away from busy cross-streets. Compared with most hotels/motels, traffic noise is minimal. Studios are well insulated. There is no discernible noise from adjoining suites.
Would I feel safe?
Melbourne is deemed to be the safest capital in Australia. Our street has a large police station 400m away. At Carlton Terrace you have freedom to come and go as you please. You have a security key to the front door. You have a key to a deadlock on your studio door.
What about cleanliness?
Another vitally important question. We are fastidious about maintaining the premises in top condition. We use experienced hospital carers because they are rigorously trained and trustworthy.
Do your studios have en suites?
Studios Drummond, Lygon and Rathdowne have en suites.
Studio Grattan has a separate bathroom with shower and bath.
Studios Bouverie is available with a Studio Grattan booking.
When Studio Grattan is booked as a single suite, Studio Bouverie is locked and bathroom is for private use of Studio Grattan.
What about kitchen facilities?
Studios Drummond, Lygon, Rathdowne and Bouverie have kitchenettes with fridges, hotplates and ovens. Studio Grattan has a separate kitchen and dining area.
And kitchen utensils?
Each studio has crockery, cutlery, electric fry pan, kettle, toaster, steamer, saucepans, chopping board and drainage rack.
Do you do breakfast?
No, we recommend you enjoy one of the many nearby cafés that can present you with superb cooked offerings from 7:00am 'til late morning.
Can I have breakfast in my studio?
You can choose to prepare your own breakfast in your studio as all cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are available in your self contained kitchenette.
I have to wash my own dishes?
Hygiene is essential. We ask that you accept responsibility for carefully cleaning kitchen equipment and facilities. If you prefer, we can arrange for servicing at an extra charge.
How often will my studio be serviced?
Studios are serviced weekly. If you prefer, we can service daily at an extra charge.
What about laundry?
Serviced laundry and folding is available at $20 a load.
And other facilities?
Each studio has enclosed luggage storage, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, free wireless internet access and phone.
How much do you charge for the phone?
Local calls are free.
Do you have fax facilities?
We have fax, ADSL, photocopying and other office facilities.
What about TV?
Each studio has a remote control TV.
Studio Grattan has 2 TV’s, a Video player and surround sound system.
Studio Bouverie has a 42” Plasma TV , DVD and video
Do you have heating and air-conditioning?
Yes, all suites are heated and cooled with split system air conditioners. You're in full control of the temperature in your suite.
Can guests smoke?
While we ask guests not to smoke indoors, they can choose to puff out on the front garden terrace.
And parking?
We have on-street and off-street parking for up to three vehicles. There may be a charge for long term parking.
If I select a particular studio am I guaranteed to be able to stay in that studio on arrival?
While we will do our best to accommodate your preference, we reserve the right to offer you an alternative studio if, for example, guests wish to extend their stay.
What is your cancellation policy?
In order to qualify for a refund you need to give us at least a week's notice that you'll not be proceeding with part or whole of your booking. |
