Eltham Garden Retreat was the recipient of the 1997 Robinson's Award for The Most Romantic B & B


The Eltham Garden Retreat, The Studio and The Loft is in the Shire of Nillumbik, only 25 minutes from the centre of Melbourne. The buildings are self-contained and your host Gwen Ford is on site at all times. While close to the city The Eltham Garden Retreat offers superior accommodation in one and a half acres of landscaped garden with a bush feeling. The garden has been part of the Australian Open Garden Scheme since its inception. 

Accommodation :
The Retreat

modern cooking facilities are provided for longer stays, breakfast is provided by your host 
cosily furnished sitting room is warm in winter, cool in summer 
private courtyard surrounded by a curved mud wall provides privacy and seclusion 
waterfall cascading over basalt rocks into a small pool creates a restful ambience in the courtyard 
breakfast of fresh juice, fruit in season, poached fruit, home made muesli, bacon, eggs, Italian sausages etc., cooked to your requirements along with good bread and home made jams 
excellent coffee and tea in store cupboard along with superior condiments 
morning paper delivered 
television, CD player, video, fridge, radio, electric blanket etc., book case provides contemporary reading along with local and International garden books and magazines 

The Studio 
A more traditional cottage design, formerly an artist's studio, this romantic cottage has been thoughtfully restored by local craftsmen.
Visitors are welcome to sit beside the waterfall and ponds, stroll along the soft tracks leading through the bird attracting native garden or simply just 'be'.

The Loft 
Access to The Loft is via steps from the garden. The top storey of the main mud brick house, built in the 1950's, is a charming, private space.
With air conditioning, hydronic heating, an ensuite bathroom and two private balconies, The Loft is comfortable and spacious. As with The Retreat and The Studio, fittings and  furnishings are high quality with an emphasis on simplicity.
To sit on the balcony among the treetops, away from life's hurly burly is the perfect way to experience tranquility.

Location

Eltham Garden Retreat is situated at Eltham, in the Shire of Nillumbik, a 25 minute drive north east of the city of Melbourne, an area noted for its artists, artists colonies and nearby wineries 
Eltham has bookshops, cafes, galleries, restaurants and parks; an inspiring building houses the award winning mud brick library, open on weekends 
you are welcome to take pleasure from the surrounding garden with its waterfall cascading gently into two large pools, or you may enjoy the privacy of your own private waterfall within the enclosed courtyard 
in the Retreat the three mud brick rooms are interlinked, providing bedroom with en suite, fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable sitting room leading through French doors into the courtyard
