NEW SOUTH WALES - Sydney - Host City of the 2000 Olympic Games
Sydney, a vibrant cosmopolitan city of 4 million people,
was the host city for the 2000 Olympic Games. Sydney was the first permanent
settlement of Australia and New South Wales the first colony.
Almost 85% of the population of NSW live in urban coastal cities and towns. The sub
tropical north coast towns of Murwillumbah, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie and Byron Bay
have golden sandy beaches set against a backdrop of the Great Dividing Range making them a
mecca for tourists all year round. Nearby to Sydney are the spectacular Blue
Mountains, the Gosford- Central Coast- Hunter Valley areas and to the south the beautiful
South Coast stretching to the seaside towns of Merimbula and Eden. A short drive
inland are the ski fields of Thredbo with Canberra, the nations Capital, the gateway to
the Snowy Mountains. The rural hinterland areas around Wagga Wagga, Dubbo and
Griffith are rich agricultural and grazing regions. From Broken Hill in the far west
of the state with its rich mining history to peaceful Lord Howe Island off the east
coast New South Wales is a state of rich and diverse beauty. If you only have time
to visit Sydney you will find one of the most beautiful harbourside cities in the world
with sights and sounds that will remain with you forever.
Come and visit us - if only to enjoy great food and wine and warm and friendly hospitality
